This three-dimensional work mirrors the proportions and subject matter of many of my paintings and two-dimensional mixed media pieces. The majority of my work is painting on wood panel, which presents the paintings as a more solidified object than just imagery. Recreating themes in my paintings in a three-dimensional way by means of this sculpture furthers this objectifying view of the abstracted anatomical body.
Peristalsis is a type of intestinal motility, characterized by radially symmetrical contraction and relaxation of muscles that propagate in a wave down a tube, in an anterograde direction.
